---Common Issues with Wintrax---

Below are the most common issues that our support team has fielded.
90% of the problems experienced by Wintrax users are listed in this
document. We hope you find your solution. If not, please e-mail us
at the address on our support page for help. Tell us what version
of the software you're using and what changers (Pioneer or Sony).
Q: I get a Windows Error 75 or 76 ... File Path Access Error or
Permission Denied.
A: You are trying to run Wintrax under NT, 2000, or XP operating system.
Wintrax is not compatible with any 32-bit only operating system yet.
Q: I built a cable, but the Wintrax demo doesn't control the changer.
A: The Wintrax DEMO does not have that module; it cannot control
changers. That is it's only limitation however. It can be used
to get the feel of how the program looks and feels. You can even
catalog or prepare your data with it!
-or-
A: When restoring Wintrax data from a CD-R or CD-R/W, be sure to change
the properties so that the files are not marked READ ONLY.
Q: Install crashes - Wintrax or the demo INSTALLATION (INSTALLSHIELD) crashes.
A: Terminate all programs and background tasks. If it still crashes, press
CTRL-ALT-DEL once, to bring up your task manager. END all tasks except for
EXPLORER and SYSTRAY. Install Wintrax and then REBOOT. Once you reboot all
your normal background tasks will return to normal.
Q: I restored my Wintrax data from a backup and now I'm getting permission errors.
A: When restoring Wintrax data from a CD-R or CD-R/W, be sure to change the
properties so that the files are not marked READ ONLY.
Q: What files do I need to backup to have a safe backup of my Wintrax data in
case my PC craters?
A: WINTRAX.DTA, WINTRAX.CFG, and WINTRAX.INI
Q: I installed the demo and the test data. Now I want to use the demo to add my
own data. I deleted the WINTRAX.DTA file and get a NETWORK PATH NOT FOUND
(or similar) error! Now what?
A: Create a blank document called WINTRAX.TXT. Put a single space character in it.
Save and Close it. Now rename it to WINTRAX.DTA. Now you have a blank database.
Start Wintrax and now you can enter your own data in it.
Q: When a song is programmed into the changers, sometimes it skips digits and
plays the wrong song.
A: Something running on your PC either in the foreground or background is not
allowing Wintrax to interrupt it long enough to program the changer. To find
the culprit, terminate each foreground task or background tasks one-at-a-time
until you find which program is the problem.
Q: My changer keeps playing the same song.
A: This is normally a Sony issue, although sometimes it has happened on Pioneer
changers. The problem is that a song is programmed into memory step #1.
To fix: Stop Wintrax. On the Sony changer select CONTINUE (take the changer
out of program mode). Restart Wintrax. On Pioneer changers, press STOP on the
changer three times. Restart Wintrax.
Q: Wintrax starts minimized on the taskbar. It won't maximize.
A: You minimized Wintrax and rebooted or shutdown with Wintrax running. Start Wintrax.
Then right click on Wintrax's TASKBAR ICON and select MAXIMIZE. When Wintrax
maximizes, close Wintrax and restart it. That should fix it.
Q: Screen Saver clock freezes and the playlist stops.
A: This is a known bug. When activating the screensaver, be sure the clock is running.
If not, release it by pressing ESC and then reactivate it again.
Q: Grid runaway. When I scroll on the grid it starts scrolling on it's own.
A: This is a known bug. The APEX's TRUEGRID has a glitch that causes this to
sometimes happen. If you scroll the grid on the main screen right after
starting Wintrax, then the grids will not runaway on the other screens.
Q: Song overrun (synchro). My Pioneer changers are using the EOM Synchro connection
and it used to work... now songs overun or don't start.
A: Wiggle the SYNCHRO plug behind the changer. The flimsy plastic Pioneer jack has
lost it's connection. Wiggling or cleaning it will restore the connectivity.
Q: Wintrax sends a few digits to the changers or powers them up, but it doesn't play
songs correctly. How can I perform a quick test that Wintrax works ok on my PC. RARE!
A: Only the registered version of Wintrax will work, the DEMO will not control the
changers. If you have a registered version, reboot your PC in SAFE mode. (Press
F8 immediately after you hear the beep when your PC boots. Then select SAFE mode).
If Wintrax works in SAFE mode, then something loaded in the background is not giving
Wintrax the CPU usage it needs. Reboot Windows in normal mode, and then terminate
background tasks until you find the one that's causing the problem.
Q: Wintrax doesn't send stuff to the changers; or just barely does.
A: See the previous question and answer also. It could be that your LPT port is not
set for STANDARD BI-DIRECTIONAL MODE (SPP MODE). From your system BIOS setup,
change your LPT port to that mode. Another cause may be that your LPT port does
not have an IRQ assigned to it. Assign one to it in the System Device Manager by
changing the current configuration setting.
